To those who think social media is just a self-promoting tool with some baby pics and cat videos thrown in for color, a new avenue of content may have opened up. It may not sound like an exciting avenue, but the numbers Glassdoor has provided, show that it’s effective. That new avenue is talking (perhaps bragging) about your employer on social media. So, if you’re an employer maybe it’s time to think more about your image on social media and rally the team to show the love.

75% of Americans believe that companies whose C-Suite executives and leadership team use social media to communicate about their core mission, brand values and purpose are more trustworthy.

61% are more likely to purchase from a company whose values and leadership are clearly communicated through executive leadership participation on social media.

39% of employees have shared praise or positive comments online about their employer.

There is a 50% increase in employees recommending company’s products or services when the employer encourages social sharing.

Only 33% of employers encourage employees to use social media to share news and information about their work or employer.

It’s important to choose the right people on your team to participate in these efforts. You want to find people who are genuinely enthused and who want to talk about the company. Remind them that these efforts will make the company stronger. Obviously you want to share positive information only, but it also shouldn’t feel forced or wooden. Done right this can make a huge difference.
