When it comes to following the trends in Tech, it pays to follow the money. Here are the highest paid jobs in tech as of 2020 according to a Stack Overflow Developer survey:

Engineering manager

Heading a team of other executives and developers, there average annual salary is $152,000.

Engineer, site reliability

They develop software for big businesses and get paid well to do it. The average annual salary is $140,000.

Data scientist or machine learning specialist

Big data crunchers earn an average annual salary of $125,000.

DevOps specialist

Combining the skills of ‘operations’ and ‘developer’. In the last few years, DevOps skills have grown rapidly. Salary at $125,000.

Engineer, data

Data engineers use their technical skills to find precise data and trends in the industry. Salary at $125,000.

Developer back-end

Back-end developers maintain, build and run all sorts of technologies. $120,000 is the average salary.

Developer, embedded applications or devices

With the IoT continuing to rise, there’s little surprise that embedded application developers command high salaries. According to the survey, the average annual salary is $120,000.

Developer, mobile

We expect this salary of $120,000 to continue to rise.

Developer, desktop or enterprise applications

Maybe not as interesting of a title as mobile developer but the money is still there at $115,000.

Developer, full-stack

Merging front and back ends, these developers earn and average salary of $112,000.

Developer, game or graphics

These developers use complicated software to create appealing visuals for video games and graphics. Their annual salary is $112,000.

Developer, front-end

These are the people responsible for a website’s user interface and more. StackFlow survey pegs their annual salary at $110k.

System administrator

IT systems stay up and running thanks to the administrator who earns an average annual salary of $110k.

These are the most common titles, but not every company needs the same things, so there’s a lot of variations. Within the next five years all the above positions will command good pay, if you can bring the passion.
