Your staff is taxed, getting a little crispy around the edges and you know you need to bring in some more talent. Good, but not so fast. This is the time to refine your understanding of what you need and what you’re looking for, and be prepared to ratchet that with the talent that’s actually available. Growth is always better when its trained skyward, and this is where you set everything to move in that direction.

Your ideal candidate likely only lives on paper, so go into the process with an idea of what you will be willing to trade off. Think about salary, skill set, experience, personality etc. and try to prioritize these aspects, so you can make a quick decision and take the pain out of the experience.

Maybe after you’ve done the interviews your ideas might change a little, well that’s OK, but don’t go in without the initial prep thinking you’ll figure it all out later. Finding the right fit is not a science, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t benefit from a process, just be OK with the idea that the process can’t be too rigid, and be ready to move.

Now that you know what’s important and how you’ll react to the realities of available candidates, it’s time to quicken the pace. Good talent doesn’t float for very long, it moves where the demand is telling it to go, and in telecom that demand is not a weak force. So you need to act quickly when you find the right fit. So take some time to get into stride then get ready to swoop.
